What is Steps Off Broadway Productions Incorporated? STEPS is a full-service Performing Arts Center and Live Theatre Company. We offer both competitive and non-competitive dance and theatre arts classes for the serious professional, or for those just looking to have some fun. We have the largest selection of ALL adult classes in the area including ballet, tap, and jazz...as well as a selection of theatre arts training programs that range from acting, singing and choreography classes to backstage crew and production instruction. Students looking for a challenge, or just an additional creative outlet, will have the opportunity to learn from experienced teachers and guest artists from the world of Dance, Music and the Professional Stage. STEPS is also home to our critically acclaimed Theatre production company, presenting a wide range of productions that range from Broadway Musicals and plays to live concerts and cabaret performances. It should be noted that we are one of the very few studios who offer an in-house performing venue for our talented students and guest artist. In addition, STEPS offers live entertainment for corporate gatherings, private parties and fund raising events. Where are you located? STEPS Performing Arts Center and Theater is conveniently located at 799 South Main Street, #18, Bellingham, MA. We're off Route 126 in The Bellingham Marketplace. Is my child too young to put into dance classes? It’s never the wrong time to consider your dance or theatre arts education. Our students will find our classes challenging and informative, taught by a nurturing staff that is both knowledgeable and caring. Students will also develop confidence and stronger social skills while learning their chosen craft...and having fun! I have an older child who expressed an interest in dance. Should they be afraid of being put into a class with youngsters? Fear not. STEPS has beginner level classes for all age groups, and our classes and theatre projects are full of people of all ages from...3 to 70! When is registration for classes? Registration is always ongoing! Although our Fall season began in September...as we always say at STEPS...“it’s never too late to sing, dance or act.” You can join any class at any time and be easily integrated into the program. For those wishing to start fresh with a new program, our exciting Spring and Summer sessions will be starting soon...so now is the perfect time to discover all that we offer at STEPS. I’m not interested in dance but am considering theater and voice lessons. What do you offer? We offer private voice classes as well as musical theater and acting classes for children and adults. Our classes are taught by professionals who have the experience and know-how to teach the essential skills needed to become a working actor, singer or theatre arts pro. In addition to our accredited resident staff, throughout the year STEPS will bring in special guest artists to work with our students. Recently, Steps was privileged to host Cheryl Swift (from the Broadway production of “Beauty and the Beast” and Grizabella in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats") and Michael La Fleur (Artistic Director for Celine Dion’s “A New Day” in Las Vegas, and director/show writer for The Walt Disney Company, Universal Studios and Regional Theatres across the US). Their knowledge and skills were a great asset to the STEPS students....several of whom were hand-picked for professional jobs! STEPS can truly open doors for the serious performer. I’m looking to become a “triple threat”. I can sing and act, but I’m not a very good dancer. Can you help? STEPS offers dance classes for the singer/actor who wants to develop the competitive skills necessary to audition and perform. Theatre dance is a wide open field of opportunity. Remember that not all musical theatre talents are "super-dancers". There have been many a star who, although good movers, are not highly trained in dance. And let's not forget the character actors! A solid foundation in the understanding of movement, sprinkled with a handful of tricks we can teach you, can result in better auditions and that elusive contract! Do you offer anything for Special Needs students? Currently 12 years strong, the Extra Special Steps (or ESS) program, run by STEPS Co-Artistic Director, Arlena Boyle, is an outlet and haven for ANY and ALL students with special needs -- no matter their age, need or disability. The ESS Department offers classes in dance, theater, and voice in a classroom environment or on an individual basis if required. Each year ESS presents 2 MAIN STAGE productions featuring its students. It is a great program for advancing skills, and a wonderful place for our special needs students to build and create new friendships. Do you put on full theatre productions at your facility? Yes! STEPS presents a full slate of productions year round, both at our Black Box Theatre in the center, and in touring productions. This past year we were proud to send productions to the breathtaking St. Ann Arts Cultural & Arts Center in Woonsocket, RI. This glorious space, a former cathedral adorned with priceless frescos and stained glass (that must be seen to be believed!) boasts a unique concert hall experience and more intimate cabaret theatre. Future projects for St. Ann's are in pre-production now. Our selection of shows include the very best of Broadway musicals, plays, concerts and cabaret productions. Are you having any auditions for upcoming shows? STEPS is currently in production and has an exciting line-up of future projects on the books. Please check out our Upcoming Shows and Auditions pages on this site for more information...or you can contact us at any time with your questions. We'll be more than happy to assist you in finding the perfect part, class or workshop for your unique talents. I’m really excited about what I’ve read here. I want to know more.
