FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Steps Off Broadway Productions Incorporated? Steps Off Broadway, Inc. is a full-service Performing Arts Center and Theatre. We offer dance classes for both competitive and non-competitive dancers, serious, recreational, professional, or those just looking to have some fun. We have the largest selection of ALL adult classes in the area including ballet, tap, and jazz. Students looking for a challenge or just an additional creative outlet will have the opportunity to learn from experienced teachers, including resident Artistic Director Keith Mottola who has over 25 years of performing professionally both in NYC and across the globe. Where are you located? Steps Off Broadway Productions Incorporated, Performing Arts Center and Theater is conveniently located at 799 South Main Street, #18, Bellingham, MA (off Route 126 in The Bellingham Marketplace). Is my child too young to put into dance classes? It’s never the wrong time to consider your dance education. Children taught correctly at a young age will learn the proper techniques and terminology which will progress them forward whether they want to perform professionally or just as a hobby. All students will find our classes challenging and informative with a staff that is both knowledgeable and caring. I have an older child who expressed an interest in dance. Should they be afraid of being put into a class with youngsters? Fear not. Steps has beginner level classes in all age groups. When is registration for classes? Fall registration is going on now and our season begins September 10, 2007. As we say at Steps, “it’s never too late to sing, dance or act.” I’m not interested in dance but am considering theater and voice lessons. What do you offer? Private voice classes are available as well as musical theater and acting classes for children and adults. All classes are taught by professionals who have experienced what it truly takes to become a working actor or singer. Learn from teachers who have been professional performers and can guide you through the performing arts experience. Throughout the year Steps will continue to bring in working professionals to work with students, which will build relationships that may be able to assist them in the future. Recently, Steps was privileged to host long time friends Miss Cheryl Swift (Broadway Dance Captain of “Beauty and the Beast”) and Mr. Michael LaFleur (show director of Celine Dion’s “Brand New Day” currently appearing in Las Vegas). Their knowledge and skills were a great asset to the Steps students and staff. I’m looking to become a “triple threat”. I can sing and act, but I’m not a very good dancer. Can you help? Steps also offers dance classes for the singer/actor who wants to learn skills necessary to audition and perform. Do you offer anything for Special Needs students? Currently 10 years strong, Extra Special Steps (or ESS) will again be returning to Steps on Mondays. The ESS Department, run by Co-Artistic Director Arlena Boyle, is an outlet and haven for ANY and ALL students -- no matter their age, need or disability. The ESS Department offers classes in dance, theater, and voice both in a class environment and on an individual basis depending on need and skills. Each year ESS presents 2 MAIN STAGE productions featuring its students. It is a great program for advancing skills, and a wonderful place for our special needs students to build and create new friendships. Do you put on full theatre productions at your facility? Steps will once again build its theatre resume and continue to thrill audiences by presenting a full slate of productions (one each month) for the 2007-2008 season. Currently in rehearsal is “The Hunchback of Horror High” (presented Oct 19, 20, 26, 27, 28, 31), a Halloween Spooktacular that is fast becoming a yearly holiday hit for all ages. Are you having any auditions for upcoming shows? “The Nuttapper Holiday at the Marketplace” (presented December 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16) will hold auditions on Sept 17, 18, and 21. We will also be having auditions for our spring schedule of shows (3 musicals and 1 comedy) in December. Please check our website for additional times and information.
